Last week, our Voluntary Action team had the privilege of spending a day volunteering at the Quick Response Memorial Woodland (QRMW) in Holmbury St Mary. Tucked away in the Surrey Hills, this beautiful woodland is a true hidden treasure. We were inspired by the dedication of Paul, the Founder, Debbie, and the many volunteers who give their time to maintain this special place.
Our day was spent clearing and tidying woodland paths, cutting back shrubs around the picturesque pond, and carefully cleaning memorial plaques. It was both rewarding and humbling work, surrounded by the peace and beauty of the trees. We ended the day with a picnic in the woodland, listening to moving stories that brought the space to life even more.
The QRMW is an extraordinary charity that provides vital support to ex-servicemen in need of immediate assistance. The woodland itself is a Garden of Reflection—a place where people can pause, remember, and find comfort in nature after loss or through the effects of conflict.
We’d highly recommend getting involved, whether you have an hour or two to spare, or are looking for a meaningful corporate volunteering opportunity. We’ll definitely be back in the spring!
If you or your organisation would like to support this wonderful cause, please get in touch with us at k.jones@vasws.org.uk.
