People across Surrey are being encouraged to discover the benefits of physical activity for mental wellbeing, as Sport in Mind has launched its latest programme of free activities for July 2026.
Sport in Mind is the UK's leading mental health sports charity, using sport and physical activity to improve the lives of people experiencing mental health challenges. Through a wide range of welcoming and inclusive sessions, the charity supports people to become more active, improve their wellbeing, build confidence and reduce social isolation.
The charity works in partnership with Surrey Heartlands, Surrey County Council and Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to deliver free activities across the county, making it easier for residents to access support in their local communities.
Supporting mental wellbeing through movement
Regular physical activity is known to have a positive impact on both physical and mental health. It can help to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve mood, increase confidence, reduce stress and create opportunities to connect with others.
Sport in Mind's sessions are designed to be friendly, supportive and suitable for people of all abilities. Whether someone is returning to exercise after a long break, managing their mental health, looking to meet new people or simply wanting to become more active, the sessions provide a safe and welcoming environment.
Participants do not need to be sporty or have previous experience. The focus is on improving wellbeing through enjoyable, accessible activities rather than competition.
