This campaign organisation (BRTA) believes there should be a rolling programme of reopening railway lines across the British regions alongside existing network modernisation, electrification and station upgrades.
It offers an alternative vision to growing road traffic queues and locked-in congestion and the associated health and environmental damage.
Reopening the Guildford to Horsham railway line is one of its focused priorities.
BRTA has been around since the 1990s and continues to call for others to join and be part of creating solutions.
It has a number of volunteer opportunities in the Surrey area...
Secretary: Role includes attend public meetings and take minutes, write agendas and liaise with other members, book meeting venues, general support.
Project officer: Head up the campaign to reopen the Guildford to Horsham line, build up a team and grow a network of support.
On-call assistant: Take on case work, assist on fundraising and promotional stalls, provide transport, research, give talks to outside organisations, help recruit new members.
Stall assistant: Required at fundraising and promotion events, collect stock to sell and develop the organisation's merchandise.
Leafleters: Deliver leaflets to people in Surrey.
Trackbed watcher: To monitor and gather evidence by taking photographs of the trackbed of the former Guildford to Horsham line.
Local government liaison officer: Set up meetings with them, look at local planning applications, promote the case for reinstating railways.
IT assistant: work remotely from home.
Social media assistant: post news, request for volunteer support, and so on.
Technical support assistant: Attend events and conferences to set up IT equipment, and help with the
smooth running of them.
Fundraising assistant: apply for grants and crowdfunding applications, gathering stock for sale at events, organise fundraising events, help to recruit new members and volunteers.
