Alcohol Harms Reduction Co-ordinator

#AlcoholAwarenessWeek seems like a good time to let you know that, from the 1st August, Voluntary Action South West Surrey will be partnering with Surrey County Council, Public Health Lead for Alcohol Harm Reduction, to employ an Alcohol Champions Coordinator.

They will lead the recruitment and integration of Alcohol Champions from local communities across Guildford and Waverley, within the Voluntary Sector. This will involve engaging with community groups to identify motivated volunteers, organise training and manage logistics with training providers plus provide ongoing support and recognition to Alcohol Champions. They will attend regular meetings with the Public Health Lead, participate in Combating Drug Partnership meetings and assist in the evaluation process; collecting feedback and measuring impact.

This is a one-year pilot project and, we are delighted to announce that, Hilary Holness, who has been covering for our Office Manager, Thahera, during her maternity leave, will be stepping into this role. She will be hitting the ground running on 1st August and will be seeking to engage and link up with our many existing, and new, partner charities, community and faith-based groups, in order to recruit Alcohol Champions within their organisations, and working alongside CATALYST SUPPORTAlcohol Change UK and Drinkaware among others.

If you would like to volunteer to become an Alcohol Champion on behalf of your organisation, or know of someone else that might be interested, please email h.holness@vasws.org.uk
