Our Social Prescribing Team

Social Prescribing Link Workers (SPLWs) play a key role in delivering social prescribing by giving people time, focusing on ‘what matters to me’ and taking a holistic approach to people’s health and wellbeing in order to connect them to appropriate community groups and services. SPLWs play a pivotal role by developing trusting relationships and providing personalised support. As a result, their work strengthens community resilience; reduces health inequalities by addressing the wider determinants of health, such as debt, poor housing and physical inactivity; and increases people’s active involvement with their local communities. SPLWs work  collaboratively with all local partners, providing a bridge between the health sector and the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.

Meet the Team

The Guildford and Waverley Social Prescribing Service is responsible for service provision in three Primary Care Networks (PCNs). These are:

  • East Guildford PCN

  • East Waverley PCN

  • West of Waverley PCN

For more information on the three PCN areas, click here. We have a diverse team of link workers across our PCNs, each with specific areas of expertise and work experience that combine to bring a well-balanced and dynamic team to serve our local community. To find out more about our team and the areas they work in, see below. For more information on our pilot projects - Social Prescribing in Probation; or Social Prescribing in A&E - please contact b.standring@vasws.org.uk.

The service is jointly managed by Ben Standring (Operations Manager; Social Prescribing Lead for External Organisations) and Jonathan Knight, who is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Social Prescribing team (Social Prescribing Team Leader; Social Prescribing Internal Lead). If you would like to get in touch with the service, please contact Ben Standring at b.standring@vasws.org.uk
